Tasmania Golf Cruise 2023

Itinerary

Day 1, Monday 13th  February 2023 (Embark)

• 15.00, we will stage a group transfer which departs the Sofitel for the Port of Melbourne
  • The transfers will be departing Royal Melbourne Golf Club (Melbourne Extension) or Melbourne Airport (cruise only)
• Once all guests are on board, a briefing and safety demonstration will occur whilst you meet the ship’s captain and crew.
  • 17.00 Sail away with cocktails in hand as we cruise along Port Phillip Bay, out the heads into Bass Strait for our overnight sailing to King Island.
• Mingle with fellow travellers as we sail into the distance to prepare ourselves for all that lays ahead on King Island

Day 2, Tuesday 14^th (King Island)

• Early this morning we arrive at King Island to enjoy breakfast aboard the ship. Our exact location will be based on the weather today with a view to finding the calmest anchorage as we tender to shore. Golfers will transfer to the infamous Cape Wickham Links whilst non-golfers will enjoy a sightseeing tour around the island stopping at the golf club for a group lunch
• This evening we overnight onboard partaking in the luxury of the ship and now enjoying some more familiar company.

Day 3, Wednesday 15^th (King Island)

• After a hearty breakfast, golfers head off to play at Ocean Dunes, located on the west side of King Island. The rugged beauty of the golf course is sure to excite links golf fans.
• Activities will be arranged for non-golfers onboard or ashore depending on your interests. King Island is famous for its beef and dairy industries as well as its rugged beauty; enjoy the pure air!
• In the evening we depart King Island for the North West coast of Tasmania, sailing overnight at a very leisurely pace.

Day 4, Thursday 16^th (Tarkine Forest)

• Today we discover one of the world’s most pristine environments. Spend your day either exploring Stanley and The Nut or head by coach to the might Tarkine Forest reserve: Australia’s largest cool temperate rainforest comprising of Snake River National Park, and visit ‘the edge of the world’, Tasmania’s most westerly point.
• After a day touring the North West, we head back to ship where, over dinner, we set sail eastwards and overnight towards our next destination.

Day 5, Friday 17^th (Barnbougle Dunes)

• Early this morning we enter the mouth of the Tamar River sailing by Low Head to our sheltered berth, which will be our base for two days.
• After breakfast, golfers head to the legendary Barnbougle Resort to play the famous Dunes Golf Course (#2 in Australia) with a BBQ lunch at the clubhouse after. Non-golfers will enjoy a day-trip to Tasmania’s second-largest city of Launceston and the idyllic Cataract Gorge, with lunch included.
• This afternoon we all re-join Coral Adventurer to enjoy dinner in the calm surroundings on the Tamar River.

Day 6, Saturday 18^th (Lost Farm & Pipers Brook)

• After breakfast on the ship, golfers will head off to play The Lost Farm golf course, which offers a more easy-going round of golf than The Dunes Course. Ensure you have your phone handy for some marvellous pictures. Golfers will enjoy a BBQ lunch at the clubhouse.
• Non-golfers will enjoy an early lunch on board and a regional excursion before joining the golfers at Pipers Brook Vineyard for a visit and tasting.
• After you’ve enjoyed some quality Tasmanian wines, it’s time to re-board the ship to freshen up for dinner. Tonight we sail out of the Tamar, heading for the North-Eastern point of Tasmania.

Day 7, Sunday 19^th (Bay of Fires – Freycinet Peninsula – Promise Bay – Great Oyster Bay)

• Overnight we sailed around Cape Portland at the North-Eastern tip of the Island, then cruised southwards past Cape Eddystone Lighthouse across the Bay of Fires very early this morning. We sailed down the East Coast with guidance from the Bridge and the Expedition Team. Over lunch, you will learn more about this stretch of coast, where annually the yachts compete in the iconic Sydney to Hobart Race. As we sail southwards in the distance on our starboard side are several settlements and tourist spots such as St. Helens, the game fishing capital of Tasmania, the old port of Falmouth near Scamander and Bicheno, a popular holiday destination.
• This afternoon we anchor off the Freycinet Peninsula, where we explore the fascinating Wineglass Bay taking in wonderful scenery and wildlife. After many photos, we set sail southwards passing Shouten Island then later in the dusk over dinner, we sail past Maria Island heading into the evening.

Day 8, Monday 20th (Adventure Bay – Bruny Island)

• Overnight, we have travelled past the Tasman Peninsula National Park and Tasman Island to anchor at Adventure Bay on Bruny Island. Here we hike along the dramatic coastal cliffs of Fluted Cape. Adventure Bay once housed four whaling stations up to the mid-1840s, and the ruins can still be seen, albeit housing furrier mammals today.
• Today is about the fresh produce and scenery that Bruny Island offers visitors, all from the luxury of our ship.
• This evening is our final dinner on board. During the early hours, we set sail for Hobart to begin the last leg of our Signature Tasmania Experience.

Day 9, Tuesday 21st (Hobart, Mount Wellington & Battery Point Walking Tour)

• We sail early this morning up the famous Derwent River into what is, without doubt, Australia’s prettiest capital city with its stunning harbour and mountainous backdrop. Breakfast will be taken on board before disembarkation followed by a fond farewell to the ship’s crew. Upon disembarkation, your luggage will be managed and transferred to the hotel.
• We depart on an excursion to the top of Mount Wellington. The views of Hobart, the Tasman Bridge and the Derwent are truly spectacular and not to be missed. Afterwards, we will head to Battery Point for a walking tour of this stunning historical part of Hobart to learn about its heritage.
• After the walking tour, we end up in Salamanca Place, the historic waterfront warehouse are now filled with boutique accommodation, restaurants, excellent bars and galleries. Here you will have free time for lunch at your leisure. Check-in commences at our hotel at 15.00, The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel. The evening is at your leisure.

Day 10, Wednesday 22nd (Tasmania Golf Club & MONA)

• After breakfast at The Tasman Hotel, golfers head to Tasmania Golf Club. The magnificent parkland course overlooks Barilla Bay and carries a distinctly Australian feel with native bushland framing all holes. Non-golfers have a free day to take a local or regional tour or explore Hobart at leisure. (We can offer extra activities on an individual basis at extra cost). Lunch is included at the golf clubhouse.
• In the afternoon, we head back to the hotel to freshen up before visiting Tasmania’s artistic jewel: MONA (Museum of Old & New Art) where David Walsh has created something quite extraordinary. After free time to explore the immersive art spaces, we shall reconvene before heading back by coach to Hobart for free time this evening.

Day 11, Thursday 23rd (Royal Hobart Golf Club & Farewell Dinner)

• After breakfast, golfers will head off for our final round for the trip at Royal Hobart Golf Club. Non-golfers are free to explore their surrounds in Hobart which is easily done on foot. The CBD stores are close by along with galleries and museums. The waterfront area around Constitution Dock is well worth exploring.
• Lunch is included at the golf club. In the afternoon, we include a visit to a local brewery which offers a tasting and some pre-dinner nibbles prior to our Farewell Dinner, where no doubt new friendships will be cemented.

Day 12, Friday 24th (End of Tour)

• After breakfast, it’s time to check-out and transfer to the airport for your flight home. You can extend your stay here – see extra night rates in the pricing section (above), or you can rent a car and explore inland Tasmania, perhaps flying home from Launceston. Please contact us if you wish to extend your stay.
