Success in motor racing has always been part of the Mercedes-Benz DNA. The same is true even of the birth of Mercedes brand name. At the end of the 19th-century Emil Jellinek, a businessman who sold Daimler vehicles to the European aristocracy and high society, created a racing team. The racing team was equipped with Daimler cars and were gifted with the name of his daughter: Mercedes.
On this tour you will enjoy driving either a Mercedes-Benz SL (R-107) or a SL (W 113) Pagode. What better way to live the Mercedes-Benz lifestyle as you experience Italian and French settings and drive on the dreamy roads of Provence and Tuscany.
After picking you up from Milan-Malpensa airport, we take you to your hotel on the shores of Lake Maggiore, you can meet your fellow travellers over a pleasant aperitif. In front of the hotel you will find your chrome-flashing Mercedes-Benz SL standing in a row and hear us explaining the easily understandable road book to you before we start our first trip. The first trip is a good way to get to know your Mercedes-Benz. A common dinner on Isola Bella, to which you are driven in style in old wooden boats, rounds the day off.
Centovalli, Ascona and the Lombard shore
On the second day an unforgettable route awaits you: rugged gorges and lonely mountain valleys in the Valle Cannobina. After crossing the Swiss border into Centovalli in Ticino, you will reach Ascona. On the picturesque promenade along the banks of Ascona you have the opportunity to take a walk and have an extensive lunch. In the afternoon you drive along the western shore road and admire sophisticated lake promenades.
Mottarone and San Giulio
On the third day you can experience the absolute rally feeling in Mottarone Preserve: serpentines, intermediate throttle and the unmistakable sound of a classic Mercedes-Benz. You drive along impressive mountain roads up to the 1,490-metre-high Mottarone, from which you look down to Lake Maggiore and Lake d’Orta. The latter becomes your next destination, via winding mountain roads you reach the old town of Orta San Giulio, where you will have enough time for a walk through the picturesque alleys. On the way back to the hotel, you will cross two more nature preserves. A common farewell dinner takes place in a popular old town restaurant in Baveno.
In the morning you will visit Castel Angera on the southern shore of Lake Maggiore, which was once home to one of Italy’s most important noble families and which is today a tourist attraction as a stately fortress. From the fortified tower you will enjoy an unforgettable view over the lake. After the visit you drive along the lake shore, past the hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso and on to Laveno. A ferry takes you to the western shore, from where we drive only a short distance to the hotel. In the afternoon you say goodbye to “your” SL and will be brought to the airport by transfer.
